[BUILD THREAD] Tamiya Suzuki Jimny MF-01X - Paint work

Some progress on the little SUV....

washed and masked the body...

  


it's gonna be a two toned Jimny... so masked off the upper part first....
and sprayed the first color.... Bright Silver...

    



removed the masks and ready for the second color...
 


Metallic Red!

  


backed with a coat of white before tearing off the window masks...
cos this time... i tried to use lesser paint... i used to coat the lexan bodies with lots of layers of paint to make them opaque.... first time using only 2 coats for both the silver and red paint....

  


love the Metallic Red....




Sticker time!

can see that some of the red got into the silver.... i should have backed the silver with a layer of white first before spraying the red....
 


sprayed TS Black for the side mirrors and added a coat of matte clear...



added lights to the little SUV as well....



wired up and ready to run!



DIY-ed body brackets to velcro the body onto the chassis...




completed!
ready to hit the dirt!

As of today, 15 Aug 2014, Singapore's COE is still on the high side....
so... instead of getting a new truck.... it's time to give the truck a fresh coat of paint!... :D

Method of execution... Sticker wrap! :D

The stickers....
2 designs for the hood....
1 for the roof....

for the 2 side panels..

choosing between the 2 designs.....

test fit for the side panels.....

and the roof....

next up.... removing the old stickers......

washing and cleaning before the wrap.....

wrapped the roof.... 

and the side panels.....

the easier ones done.....

chose the flag design in the end....

took longer for the hood wrap.... managed to complete it... :)

next... mounting the panels onto the truck.....

and here's how it looks now.... :)

next..... awaiting the arrival of the guest of honour......
also.... the new owner of the truck......

Got this truck used from a fellow SGCrawlers member.... :)

The Tamiya Highlift Tundra... Toyota Tundra is one of my dream truck... had been drooling on the 1:1 Tundra since years back.....

Here's to document some works on the build....

It took several nights to complete the whole paint job...

sprayed 1 color per night... :D

The Tundra...

Swapped on some 1.9 wheels and tyres on the Tundra....

Next.... dismantle the truck body, parts and accessories....

sanded the cab, bed and tail gate....

Primed with Tamiya fine primer from a previous paint job....
and sprayed the whole truck with Tamiya Pearl White as the base color...

masking the Ivan Stewart Toyota theme design....

spraying on the Red...

waited a day for the red to dry.....

masking the tail gate to spray on matte black for the truck bed and tail gate handle...

masked the cab and sprayed on the Orange....

Truck bed and tail gate matte blacked....

masked the cab and sprayed on the Yellow....

done for the 3 colors....
forgot to take pics of masking and spraying the bottom of the cab in Light Gun metal....

did a few clear coats on the truck cab and bed sides before masking the window seals for matte black spray.....

masked the body and sprayed on the matte black....

finally.... after a few nights of painting and masking..... here's the completed paint job... :)

proceeded to assemble the parts and here's the Ivan Stewart Toyota Tundra.... :)
